GIRLS PODCAST

meet the lover girls

The Lover Girls Podcast was launched in 2023 to further our mission of fostering meaningful conversations about mental health and wellness. Hosted by Kate Grasman and Julie Moore, the podcast features a variety of guests who share their mental health experiences and personal journeys in sports.

Our goal is to enhance visibility, provide mentorship, and create networking opportunities for the next generation of athletes 🎧🧠⭐️

Our Story

Hello! I’m Julie Moore, one of the founders of The Lover Girls Podcast. My co-host Kate Grasman and I are former U SPORTS student-athletes who played professionally overseas in Europe.

I’ve been involved in sports for as long as I can remember, and volleyball has always held a special place in my heart. I played at the collegiate level from 2017 to 2022, and in 2023, I signed my first professional contract to play overseas—a dream come true after years of hard work and dedication.

However, in 2020, my journey took an unexpected turn. In January, I faced a significant decline in my mental health, which led me to step back from school and volleyball to focus on my wellbeing.  I experienced an identity crisis and struggled with anxiety and depression, which highlighted just how deeply intertwined our sense of self can be with our athletic pursuits. Recognizing this gap inspired me to share my story and create a space for others to do the same.

By providing a supportive environment, we aim to break the stigma around mental health. Together, we can uplift one another and navigate the complexities of being an athlete beyond the game.

I believe that by sharing our stories, we find strength in our vulnerability and create a sense of belonging for all athletes. We are not alone in our journeys, and through open dialogue, we can inspire and empower each other to thrive both on and off the court.

Thank you for being part of this important conversation!
